Meet the Founder
I’m Jennie
After nearly two decades in recruitment, I founded Balance in 2018 to address a gap I had seen first-hand and could no longer ignore. Organisations were being asked to hire inclusively, but without the structure, skills or support needed to make fair and defensible hiring decisions in practice.
I’ve led UK and international Talent Acquisition teams for global organisations including WPP Brand Consulting, Ogilvy & Mather, Omnicom Media Group, AKQA and GroupM. Working in complex, high-stakes hiring environments gave me a deep understanding of how recruitment decisions are made, where bias enters the process, and why well-intentioned approaches often fall short.
Over time, my focus shifted from hiring at pace to hiring well. I became particularly interested in the structural and decision-making biases that shape who gets hired and who is overlooked, and in how hiring processes can be redesigned to be fairer, more consistent and more effective. This led me to specialise in inclusive and skills-based hiring, grounded in real organisational constraints rather than theory.
Today, my work centres on inclusive hiring audits, advisory and process design, and the delivery of practical training for recruiters, hiring managers and leaders. I work closely with organisations to improve decision-making, reduce bias, strengthen governance and embed inclusive, skills-based hiring approaches that stand up in practice.
After many years in London, I now live in Hamble-Le-Rice on the south coast with my partner Adam and our son Dexter.
